The Sound Enthusiast !

André Manoukian is a pianist of “Armenian-Cosmic” origin, as he likes to call himself. He was immersed in a musical environment from an early age, starting piano lessons at the age of 6, an instrument for which he quickly developed a passion. A pianist, composer and arranger, he has also written several film scores and is a music columnist for radio and television. After studying jazz at Boston’s Berklee School of Music, he founded a jazz band on his return to France. At the same time, he continued his work as a composer and arranger, working for Gilbert Bécaud, Charles Aznavour, Janet Jackson and Liane Foly. In 2003, the general public discovered André Manoukian’s face when he became a jury member on the M6 program ” A la recherche de la Nouvelle star”. He then went on to host a number of TV programs: Dédé, les doigts de fée, on ParisPremière, Tété ou Dédé on France 5, and more. He also appeared on France Inter radio in a variety of programs. The artist continues to pursue his musical career, regularly releasing albums: Inkala (2008), So in Love (2010), Melanchology (2011), Apatride (2017), Les Pianos de Gainsbourg (2021) for the 30th anniversary of Serge Gainsbourg’s death (with Melody Gardot, Camélia Jordana, Isabelle Adjani, Rosemary Standley, CamilleLelouch, Elodie Frégé) and Anouch (Nov 2023).

Inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach’s algorithms, he developed a start-up called MatchTune, which synchronizes music with images. Meanwhile, in 2010, he created the first edition of the Cosmo Jazz Festival in Chamonix and hosted the “Sur les routes de la musique” chronicles on France Inter throughout the summer of 2023, publishing Sur les routes du Jazz with Harper Collins in 2022. André Manoukian is passionate about the power of sound on mankind and society, and is committed to the UNESCO’s Week of Sound 2024.
