Philippe Le Guay, one of French cinema’s leading directors and screenwriters, discovered his passion for cinema in his teens at the Ciné Club de la Pension Saint-Martin, where he watched films by Hitchcock, Buñuel and Fellini.
In 1980, Philippe Le Guay was accepted at IDHEC.
His promotional film Le clou won numerous awards at festivals (1983).
Philippe Le Guay’s filmography is marked by eclecticism.
A costume film(Les deux Fragonard, 1989), a sentimental comedy(L’Année Juliette, 1995), a film noir pitting two workers against each other in a glass factory(Trois huit, 2001). The Cost of Living is a choral comedy exploring the theme of money, starring Fabrice Luchini, Vincent Lindon and Claude Rich (2003).
This was followed by a fable about happiness starring Benoît Poelvoorde(Du jour au lendemain, 2006).
Philippe Le Guay enjoyed great popular success with Les femmes du 6° étage (2011).
He reunited with Fabrice Luchini in 2013 with Alceste à bicyclette, a contemporary variation on Le Misanthrope.
In 2015, Floride is a bitter-sweet comedy featuring Jean Rochefort and Sandrine Kiberlain.
In 2018, Normandie nue features a Norman village that strips naked for an American photographer… (starring François Cluzet and Toby Jones).
With L’homme de la cave, Philippe Le Guay returns to a harsh, contemporary theme, in the tradition of Trois Huit.
The film reunites François Cluzet, Jérémie Rénier and Bérénice Béjo.
Scheduled for release in October 2021.

Bruno COULAIS
In 1978, as a young symphonist, Bruno Coulais discovered in film music an additional means of expression, a way of bringing the demands of his writing to the widest possible audience.
In cinema,” he explains, “the composer has to meet the directors, enter their world, but without giving up his own. That’s the difficulty, or paradox, of composing music for pictures. Collaborating with filmmakers from a wide variety of backgrounds has helped me to progress, to explore territories that weren’t naturally my own.” The general public discovered the firepower of his writing with Josée Dayan’s major television series(La Rivière Espérance, Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) and the documentary Microcosmos, an initiatory voyage on the scale of a centimeter.
To this plunge into the world of the infinitely small, Coulais injects a strange lyricism, somewhere between wonder and fantasy.
More broadly, Microcosmos earned him an avalanche of requests, from Olivier Dahan to Gabriel Aghion, Mathieu Kassovitz to Akhenaton, enabling him on occasion to forge a loyal relationship with filmmakers such as James Huth, Jean-Paul Salomé and Frédéric Schoendoerffer.
Whether he’s working on research projects or French-style blockbusters(Vidocq, Belphégor, Les Rivières pourpres), Coulais sees his art as a window on the world, revealing a gift for modern alchemy, a personal way of blending cultures, creating a genuine fusion between, for example, Tibetan choirs, Egyptian percussion and Corsican polyphony with A Filetta, his favorite vocal group since Jacques Weber’s Don Juan.
Not to mention his unique talent for creating dreamlike, unsettlingly gentle moods, based on hypnotically charming distorted lullabies, children’s voices and music boxes.
Curiously, his great popular successes do not restrict him to a specific perimeter.
2004, for example, was a schizophrenic year, torn between the tsunami of Christophe Barratier’s Les Choristes and Genesis, a brilliant documentary on the very meaning of life, with a demanding score and a modern edge.
In the same way, Bruno Coulais has established himself as a link between auteur animation (with Henry Selick or Tom Moore) and Benoît Jacquot, a filmmaker with a great mistrust of music in pictures, a fortiori original ones.
Today, after thirty-five years of composing for the screen, Bruno Coulais has acquired a unique status as a composer who crosses borders, acts as a triple agent and blurs boundaries.
The proof: within his filmography, the Marsupilami reaches out to Volker Schlöndorff, André Gide talks to Lucky Luke, Diderot smiles at Isaac Hayes.
Listening to his works in film, on record or in concert is an invitation to journey into the world of a creator determined to dream ahead, a creator whose calm exterior contrasts astonishingly with the intensity of his inner world.
