Created in 1861, the Orchestre Pasdeloup bears the name of its founder Jules Pasdeloup. It performs an eclectic repertoire, ranging from the great classical masterpieces to contemporary compositions, musical comedies and new creations featuring jazz, cinema, body arts or multi-orchestras. As an association, it is self-administered and defines its own programming, productions and musical orientations. The eighty permanent member musicians participate in all decisions concerning the life of the orchestra. Another original feature of the Orchestre Pasdeloup is that it has no permanent conductor: the musicians regularly invite the world’s greatest conductors each season, each with his or her own sensibilities, to open up the orchestra’s repertoire in a wide variety of original genres.

France's oldest symphony orchestra, Orchestre Pasdeloup celebrates its 160th anniversary in 2021.
Although it performs primarily in Paris, it also plays in France and abroad, notably in the Maghreb countries where it was, in some cases, the first French orchestra to be invited. The orchestra has forged partnerships with other orchestras in different countries and, thanks to fruitful exchanges, promotes the cross-fertilization of cultures. Critics are unanimous in their praise of the Orchestre Pasdeloup’s excellence in a wide range of fields: musical theater, choreography, opera, not forgetting the symphonic repertoire, its main and primary vocation.
