AMF is the French Mayors' Association.

Founded in 1907, and recognized as a public utility in 1933, the AMF works alongside mayors and presidents of inter-municipal bodies, respecting the values and principles that have prevailed since its creation: the defense of local freedoms, concrete and permanent support for elected representatives in their day-to-day management, and a loyal but demanding partnership with the State to ensure that the interests of local authorities and their groupings are always protected.
Nearly 35,000 mayors and presidents of EPCIs are now members. This is why the AMF has such a strong legitimacy, enabling it to be a force for proposals and representation. The AMF’s history is one of defending local freedoms. The association works tirelessly to ensure that decentralization guarantees communes genuine autonomy in the management of local affairs, and is strongly committed to ensuring that mayors have sufficient legal and financial resources to carry out their duties.

Thanks to the diversity of its representatives and the quality of its services, the AMF is recognized as a force for proposals, with a real capacity to maintain an ongoing dialogue with public authorities. As a force for proposals and representation, the AMF acts as a privileged interlocutor with public authorities, well upstream of projects, wherever the future of communes and their groupings and the conditions for their development are at stake. As part of their advisory and decision-making role, the AMF’s departments keep abreast of legislative and regulatory developments affecting local authorities. Their in-depth expertise enables them to provide personalized advice to mayors and community presidents.
