WHEN SOUND CREATES IMAGE" COMPETITION, SCHOOL AND INTERNATIONAL

Listen to see better!

Wednesday January 22 - 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
UNESCO Room 4

The “When Sound Creates Image” international competition is designed to raise awareness of filmmaking through the creation of original soundtracks. If images inspire composers, the reverse is also true: sound and music can be highly suggestive elements for directors. For this reason, Semaine du Son, in collaboration with UNESCO, is offering the chance to make a short film lasting 1 min 40 sec, based on a composer’s original soundtrack. With complete artistic and technical freedom, the only obligation being not to modify the sound composition. Launched in 2017 with composer Greco Casadesus, the multi-award-winning competition has met with clear success: last year, 300 films were submitted based on an original score by Rone! Many of the world’s leading film music professionals have taken part, including Jean Musy, Jorge Arriagada, Philippe Rombi, Gabriel Yared and Ibrahim Maalouf.
This year, Thomas Dutronc has been entrusted with the creation of the music. Opening remarks
– Thomas Dutronc, musician, singer, composer of the 2025 soundtrack
– Jean-Philippe Blanchard, vice-president of La Semaine du Son The seventh edition of the competition organized by La Semaine du Son is divided into four categories:
– National school competition, in partnership with the French Ministry of Education. – Competition for students at eco-responsible high schools in the Île-de-France region, in partnership with the Île-de-France Region’s Lycées Éco-Responsables initiative. 2025 theme: Controlling noise. – International competition, open to audiovisual amateurs and professionals, relayed by the Institut Français. – International school competition, in collaboration with the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network. 2025 theme: Listening to each other. Participants – pupils, students, amateurs and professionals – produced a short film inspired by an original 1’42 score composed by musician and singer Thomas Dutronc. Two events will mark this year’s event:
– The prize-giving ceremony for the national and international competitions will take place on Wednesday January 22 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at UNESCO. – The awards ceremony for the international school competition, scheduled for Thursday May 15 in Cannes, in partnership with the city of Cannes and Cannes Cinéma, under the Cannes Cinéphiles banner. A not-to-be-missed event to celebrate young people’s creativity!
