La Fémis (Fondation européenne des métiers de l’image et du son) or École nationale supérieure des métiers de l’image et du son, is a French public institution of higher education, and a member of the Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL) university.

Founded in 1986 as the successor to the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques (IDHEC), Fémis provides technical and artistic training for professionals in the audiovisual and film industries.

Along with École nationale supérieure Louis-Lumière, École nationale supérieure CinéFabrique and École nationale supérieure de l’audiovisuel de Toulouse, Fémis is one of four public film schools in France.

Financed by the Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée (CNC) and under the supervision of the French Ministry of Culture, Fémis is one of the few film schools with an international reputation. The school offers ten teaching departments: directing, image, sound, editing, set design, production, scriptwriting, distribution-exploitation and TV series creation. Between four and eight students are trained in each department. La Fémis is renowned for the difficulty of its entrance exam, as well as for its extensive technical facilities.
