Soundtrack composer

Born on April 3, 1968 in Pau, Philippe ROMBI began his musical studies at the Conservatoire National de Région de Marseille, studying piano with Pierre BARBIZET and conducting with Pol MULE.
He was awarded a Premier Prix in orchestral conducting, a Médaille d’Or in piano and chamber music, and the Grand Prix de la Ville de Marseille, which enabled him to perform Rachmaninov’s celebrated 2nd piano concerto with Pol Mule conducting.
His first concert works were then noticed by Antoine DUHAMEL.
He entered his film music class at the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Musique de Paris, graduating two years later with a Diplôme Supérieur de Composition.
It was thanks to his first works for film that Philippe ROMBI attracted the attention of François OZON, for whom he composed the music for his first feature film: Les Amants Criminels (1999).
Next to follow: Sous le Sable (2000), Swimming Pool (2003), 5×2 (2004), Angel (2007), Ricky (2009), Potiche (2010), Dans la Maison (2012), nominated for a Cesar for best score, Jeune et Jolie (2013), Une Nouvelle Amie (2014), Frantz (2016), for which he received his third César nomination, and L’Amant Double (2017), which he accompanied to Cannes for the fourth time.
Appreciated both for the strength of his themes and melodies and the richness and subtlety of his orchestrations, he has become a key composer for French cinema.
After a number of acclaimed and award-winning scores: Jeux d’enfants by Y. SAMUELL, Le Coût de la vie by P. LE GUAY, and Swimming Pool by F. OZON, Dany BOON called on Philippe ROMBI to set the music for his first film, followed by the hugely successful Bienvenue chez les Ch’tis (2008).
More recently, Christophe BARRATIER entrusted him with the music for “La Nouvelle Guerre des Boutons”.
He then signed J.F.RICHET’s new film “Un Moment d’Egarement” and Alexandra LECLERE’s Le Grand Partage, before reuniting with Christophe BARRATIER for L’Outsider (2016).
In addition to composing, Philippe ROMBI conducts the orchestra himself on recordings and regularly plays the solo piano parts.
He conducted the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) at the Abbey Road studio for Joyeux Noël, and has been a regular guest of the Orchestre Symphonique Bel Arte for all his recordings in France.
Regularly acclaimed by the international press, it was at Salle Pleyel that he was awarded the Grand Prix de la SACEM 2018 by his peers.
Moving from drama to comedy, from thrillers to adventure films with equal ease, he likes to write concert works in between film projects, such as the Poème Symphonique “Symphonic Hymn for Harmony” commissioned by China for the Olympic Games.
