The aim of La Semaine du Son is to introduce the public , elected representatives and all those involved in society to a better understanding of sound and the importance of the quality of the sound environment, to a better understanding of sound and the importance of the quality of the sound environment, which must not only be preserved , but in many cases restored.

Governed by the law of July1, 1901 and the decree of August 16, 1901, La Semaine du Son aims to be a hub of knowledge, knowhow and know-how about sound. To further knowledge in its field, it encourages studies by leading specialists , whose arguments and and conclusions feed into the Semaine du Son symposia. Through the creation of a national and international network of professionals from all sectors (television, education, etc.), it promotes the popularization of this knowledge right into schools.), we bring this knowledge into the classroom, through school events tailored to young audiences. It also intends to campaign for the creation of appropriate training courses , leading to recognized diplomas, currently absent from the curricula of schools and universities alike, in architecture, sound engineering, etc. Since 2004, Semaine du Son has organized a week of events in January, a week of events focusing on sound-related issues from a cross-disciplinary perspective: cultural, medical, industrial, educational and economic. In 2006, this unique event was awarded a Décibel d’Or by the Conseil National du Bruit, a consultative body under the patronage of the French Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development. It is supported in particular by the French Ministry of Health and Solidarity, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development. Founded by Christian Hugonnet, an engineer in acoustics and sound recording techniques, expert before the courts, the association brings together sound professionals: musicians, sound engineers, acousticians, doctors, specialists who wish to raise public awareness of the importance of the quality of the of the sound environment in the development of individual and collective life. La Semaine du Son” makes its debut in 8 regional cities. 2009: La Semaine du Son is recognized as an association of general social interest. The adoption of new Articles of Association by the General Meeting has enabled the company to welcome new members, associatemembers, benefactor members and full members. In early 2012, a framework agreement was signed between the French Ministry of Education, the Managing Director of Canopé (formerly CNDP) and the association La Semaine du Son.The following year, in 2013, on the initiative of the association La Semaine du Son and with the support of André Staut, the Club Parlementaire Son Société, co-chaired by Senator Catherine Morin-Desailly and MP Christophe Bouillon. October 31, 2017, the resolution inspired by the La Semaine du Son Charter and proposed by the unanimously passed by UNESCO’ s General Conference, before its forthcoming adoption by the United Nations. In July 2024, Semaine du Son was accredited by the French Ministry of Education. This national accreditation is a label proving that an association is capable of working in the service of education, as a partner to schools and establishments. August 2024, La Semaine du Son is now an official partner (consultative status) of UNESCO. This partnership validates UNESCO’s recognition of the importance of the association’s work, and opens up new avenues for collaboration with UNESCO.
