On the opening evening of the 22nd Semaine du Son, Christian Hugonnet launched the Décibélateur, a sound level meter named by Semaine du Son patron Erik Orsenna.
Produced by Preventec on the initiative of La Semaine du Son, the Decibelator has a simple objective: to familiarize the general public with the notion of the decibel.
But why? Quite simply because the decibel is a unit of measurement with which we are not very familiar. Just as we can feel cold or heat without difficulty, thanks to the degree Celsius, so the notion of the decibel is little perceived, except when noise is too loud and causes auditory discomfort.
La Semaine du Son’s project is therefore to propose the installation of this “decibelizer” as a sign or flag on all hearing aid stores and town halls.
This initiative will give passers-by a fairly accurate idea of the noise level to which they are subjected.
