The 30th anniversary of the Slave Routes will be held on Wednesday, October 9 (6:30-9:00 pm) and Thursday, October 10 (6:00-9:00 pm) at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
On this occasion, UNESCO’s Social and Human Sciences Sector is inviting stakeholders from all over the world to take part in the 30th Anniversary program of the Slave Routes. Created by UNESCO in 1994, this program aims to eradicate the economic and social injustices that are the deep-rooted consequences of slavery.
Highlights will include an opening ceremony, followed by the launch of the Réseau des Lieux d’Histoire et de Mémoire liés à l’Esclavage et à la Traite Transatlantique, and a round-table discussion with ministers who will share best practices in addressing the history, legacy and aftermath of slavery.
Experts from around the world, including members of UNESCO’s Network of Leaders against Racism and Discrimination, will provide perspectives on promoting equality and justice for all, strengthening the implementation of inclusive public policies and defending the rights of people of African descent.
The 30th anniversary is open to the public and will include artistic performances.
